Blood Rage: Frost Giant

Long time, no post. But that is because I work in secret, shunning the light of day and company of people so that I may bring you THIS! ...But only once it's officially announced. A few days ago the Facebook page for the new game, "Blood Rage" went up and now I can talk about it and post pictures.
This guy was one of four figures Mike McVey asked me to sculpt for the game and I think one of the ones that turned out the best.

I included a Zombicide survivor figure in with the last picture for a scale reference so it might help with questions on just how big he is. He was sculpted using mostly Fimo and was finished up May of this year. As you can see from the concept art he is stomping through some deep snow and I needed to extrapolate that part of the anatomy to sculpt his feet (not that big of a deal) but also try to capture that, "I'm standing on a mountain" feel that he has, so having one leg perched on a rocky crag seemed the best approach to that.

Here is a last set of pictures showing off the progression of the sculpt, probably not that interesting but who knows?

Concept art by Adrian Smith.

  1. This has so much pover, the concept art was great to begin with, but you managed to improve on it IMO. The WIP shots are very interesting, I only wish there were more. This is not one of your more complex sculpts, especially for the size, but it all comes together so well. Really impressive!! You probably had fun sculpting those large volumes. I would love to see your interpretation of the the juggernaut.

    1. Thank you, I really wasn't expecting this kind of reaction to him so it's good to know he is being received well.
For the complexity of the piece, I agree. He was designed to be cast as one whole piece so no assembly which is unusual for me on a piece this size. I do not know if the production facility in charge of making molds will keep it that way, we'll see.
I have lots of details I still need to work on, hair being one of them and this guy is covered in it so itook my time to try and make it stand out with crisp lines and a natural flow to denote a cold wind.
Juggernaut? Is that from Blood Rage as well? I don't exactly get the names of the figures I am working on sometimes so maybe I did. Unless you are referring to another Juggernaut from another game?

  3. Awesome mini! Could you perhaps tell me, what the size of his base is? Thanks :)

    1. Glad you like the figure!
I am unsure which base you are asking about? If you mean the shots of my sculpting rig it's sitting on in the pictures then that is about 45mm across but that is the pedestal that I use to sculpt on and won't be a part of the final figure. If you are talking about the rock he is standing on I can only guess at the dimensions as that figure was done over a year ago and I can't remember the exact measurements. I think it's something like 30mm long with a 20mm base? If you are talking about the base that final figure is on then I do not know for sure since that is something the production facility added afterwards but I can guess that it's 40-45mm across.
Sorry it's not more exact but hope that helps.
