Blood Rage: Frost Giant

Long time, no post. But that is because I work in secret, shunning the light of day and company of people so that I may bring you THIS! ...But only once it's officially announced. A few days ago the Facebook page for the new game, "Blood Rage" went up and now I can talk about it and post pictures.
This guy was one of four figures Mike McVey asked me to sculpt for the game and I think one of the ones that turned out the best.

I included a Zombicide survivor figure in with the last picture for a scale reference so it might help with questions on just how big he is. He was sculpted using mostly Fimo and was finished up May of this year. As you can see from the concept art he is stomping through some deep snow and I needed to extrapolate that part of the anatomy to sculpt his feet (not that big of a deal) but also try to capture that, "I'm standing on a mountain" feel that he has, so having one leg perched on a rocky crag seemed the best approach to that.

Here is a last set of pictures showing off the progression of the sculpt, probably not that interesting but who knows?

Concept art by Adrian Smith.

02/20/2014 Update; Brand new pictures of the figure painted by Rogland Painting Service. https://www.facebook.com/RoglandPaintingArtist You can see more pictures there.

Little sins

I'm not sure what the official name for these guys are so my nicknames for them have been, "Hound" for Wrath...

...And "Meatball" for Glutton.

These guys are smaller then any of the major sins as you can see by the Zombicide figures I included for scale. I can't share the concept art since it hasn't been released to the public yet but I'll post it when it is.
So, ummmmm... Yeah. That's pretty much it. Sculpted in Fimo and greenstuff.

Wrath of Kings: The Mighty Taur

Those of you might recognize the concept art from the Wrath of Kings Kickstarter and it looks like the resin demo pieces were being shown at Gencon so here are pictures of the original sculpt...

Sculpted in Fimo, greenstuff along with aluminum rod, pewter tubing and metal chain.

The Others - 7 Sins: Wrath

Edit: Since MR. Adrien Smith has posted the art for this guy on his Facebook account, https://www.facebook.com/artofadriansmith I'll post the picture here so you guys can see it too. This was the art I worked off of to make this figure. Daunting, yes?

Since Gencon is now over and pictures have been leaked I can finally show some pictures of some of the projects I've been working on the past year. I got sent the artwork for this guy around August of last year I think and was blown away to find out I'd be working from art by Adrien Smith! I mean, that's like a totally incredible thing for me. I've enjoyed his work for years, practically decades and when I was just beginning to sculpt had always wanted to do figures of GWAR after seeing the cover to Violence Has Arrived.
I'm guessing Mr. Remy Tremblay was taking a break because I can't think of any other plausible reason why they would trust me with this. He's done an amazing job on all the other figures for the line and if you want to see the "greens" for those figures check out his blog...

Anyway, here are some pictures of the sculpt. I'll see if everybody is OK with me posting the original art and the paint job on the studio figure is by Mr. Vincent Fontaine.

Figure was sculpted in Fimo and for once it's not blue.

Zombicide A-Bomb and Fem A-Bomb

I've noticed my blogs been getting a lot of hits from Zombicide fans over in France so, "Bonjour!" from the US, hopefully these latest sculpts will be well received.
I finished the first A-Bomb in late November last year and it was based off of the cover for the new Rue Morgue expansion, I ended up changing the hand position to make it more, "groping" and since his left arm was not detailed in the concept art I decided to exercise some artistic licencing with it. To me asymmetrical elements always add a wrongness and alien aspect to a design so I made sure that if one arm was bloated with tumors then the other was emaciated and spindly hopefully adding to the look of unstable genetics the infected seem to be suffering from.

I had some down time in early December while doing some new pieces for the Wrath of Kings line and really wanted to do another A-Bomb but this time make it female, so when I could, I worked on this figure. I attempted to emulate Edouard's character design while adding some of my own without making it look out of place. Originally I wanted her to be in a wedding dress, a kind of bridezilla joke but the train and ruffles of the dress would have ended up being too complex for the molding process. I have to do my best to ensure the sculpts for Zombicide are one piece with no assembly required for the players and an overly complex dress would have added too much depth (front to back) for the figure so at the last second I decided to abandon that. Other then that I got to do all that I wanted to on the figure; I flip-flopped the arm styles from the first A-Bomb so it didn't just look like a copy and I added more bizarre spines and spikes along with a pulpy, corpulent hump on her back... Oh yeah, and breasts. With armor.
I didn't tell the gang at Guillotine Games what I did and just secreted it in with the next figure shipment as a surprise Christmas present. I suggested they could use it as a stretch goal for the next Kickstarter campaign, which they did.

Until everybody gets their orders for the latest Zombicide expansions in hand here are some shots of the "Greens," (but in my case "blues") for both the primary A-Bomb and stretch goal Fem A-Bomb.

R.I.P Giger

Hans Ruedi Giger died today from injuries sustained from a fall in his museum in Zurich, Switzerland. We have lost an artist with amazing vision and the world is poorer for it. He was 74.
